NZ unemployment figures reach a 10 year high

New Zealand’s unemployment has reached a 10-year high in the latest quarterly report.  Government-funded Statistics New Zealand said that during the last 12 months the number of unemployed rose by 48,000 to 138,000. Women were the most affected, the data showed.

Trade Me Jobs beats Seek on Page Impressions for the first time

Trade Me Jobs is claiming a victory over Seek in the battle for online job board dominance.
Trade Me Jobs has officially passed Seek, delivering 15 million domestic page impressions for July 2009*.  By comparison Seek received 14.5 million page impressions for the same period*.

This follows on from Madison Recruitment closing it’s Palmerston North operation earlier this year.

Recession leads to demand for contractors

It seems contractors are in demand during the economic downturn according to a recent Workplace Survey.
While many permanent employees are worried for their jobs in the global downturn, finance and accounting contractors are still in hot demand, according to an international survey by recruitment specialists Robert Half.

TVNZ propose to cut 90 jobs in cost reductions and savings plan

March 16, 2009

TVNZ today announced to its staff its plan to achieve $25 million in cost reductions and savings.
TVNZ Chief Executive Rick Ellis said cost reductions and savings would be made from the programme budget, departmental operating budgets and from about 90 proposed redundancies.

Manpower survey predicts gloomy outlook for employment

A new survey by employment services provider Manpower has shown a significant drop in hiring intentions among New Zealand companies.
The Manpower Employment Outlook Survey asked 868 employers throughout New Zealand about their hiring intentions for the second quarter of 2009, and found only 13% of employers are forecasting an increase in headcount during that period.
